The communication manager of the Greek Olympic mission, Dimos Bouloukos, who is in Paris, spoke yesterday to peloponnisos FM 104.1 and Prokopi Kogo and conveyed their impressions.
Key points of the interview:
For the opening ceremony:It was a television-only opening ceremony, those who were here and paid a €3,000 ticket didn’t get a whiff of what was going on. It was spread all over Paris and those who were here did not see it. I had a complaint from athletes that we didn’t see the peak of where the flame was coming from.”
There are complaints about living conditions and food: “Things are not satisfactory, the comparison with Tokyo is fresh. The food is not good, the athletes get hamburgers from the canteens and one reason is that there are long queues in the restaurants. It seems the French did not anticipate the presence of so many athletes and in general have lowered the cost of the games in everyday matters. There are also complaints about transportation, the routes from the Olympic village are not that frequent, with the result that yesterday an athlete missed his match because the bus was late.”
Medal Predictions by Athletes: “Christou made a tremendous effort, but it was a very difficult final, the world’s top athletes participated. And where it got to was a big deal. I expect a lot from the National Men’s polo and Tedoglou, Dusko, but I am keeping the bar low for the Olympic medals. Shall we say it another way? In which sectors is Greece among the 8 best countries in the world”?
Security measures: “It is very strict and it is clear that the French have staked a lot on it. We constantly see, in the Olympic village, on the streets, but also in the Seine, they pass inflatables with armed policemen walking around with guns in their hands. In total I think there are almost 75,000 people guarding Paris”.
