Still full of hope two months ago, the OGC Nice of Hicham Boudaoui and Youcef Atal is close to losing everything. Leaving the podium in the league, the Aiglon club has just lost the final of the Coupe de France.
For its first real season as a very ambitious club in France, following its takeover by INEOS, OGC Nice has had a bumpy ride. The summer transfer window had however been ambitious and the arrival of Andy Delort (who left the selection following his transfer) was the emblem.
Long 2nd, the OGCN experienced a soft spot following its defeat on the ground of Olympique de Marseille. Since then, Youcef Atal has also injured his shoulder, ending his season early.
In the Coupe de France this Saturday, the Aiglons might still hope to win a title once morest FC Nantes, a surprising finalist. However, the Azureans lost by the smallest of margins (0-1) following a penalty from Franco-Moroccan Ludovic Blas. Hicham Boudaoui played 57 minutes, Billal Brahimi came on at 63′ and Andy Delort played the entire game. The Franco-Algerian Amine Gouiri, who announced that he wanted to play for the France team, also played the whole match.
Thanks to its victory, FC Nantes, the former club of Mehdi Abeid in particular, will compete in the Europa League next season. Thus, only the first 5 of the French championship will be qualified in the various European cups and Nice, current 6th, will have to work hard to achieve this.
