Bou Habib: We received “assurances” regarding the expected escalation between Israel and the Lebanese factions over the Majdal Shams incident

“We have received assurances from countries concerned with the issue, and certainly the United States and France are very concerned about this issue,” Bou Habib said in a television interview.

He added that the response of the Lebanese factions to the Israeli escalation will also be limited.

Yesterday, the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz spoke about Western efforts to prevent Israel from targeting Beirut or major Lebanese cities in response to the Majdal Shams incident.

Diplomatic sources told the newspaper that the threat of a large-scale war depends on the response of Lebanese factions to the Israeli strike in Lebanon, adding that the United States and France are trying to prevent Israel from targeting Beirut or other major cities.

This comes as the Israeli Army Radio reported yesterday, Sunday, that the army leadership presented to the political level several different scenarios for the expected attack on Lebanon. The radio said, quoting Israeli government officials, that Israel is preparing to deliver a “painful blow” to the Lebanese factions while being careful “not to be dragged into a broad regional war.”

Tensions escalated yesterday, Sunday, between the Lebanese factions and the Israeli army, against the backdrop of the Majdal Shams incident, where 12 children were killed when a missile fell on a football field they were attending in the town, and 40 others were injured.

Israel accused the Lebanese factions of launching the missile, and vowed to respond, while the Lebanese factions denied any connection to the incident.
