The President of the Maronite League, Ambassador Khalil Karam, received at the headquarters of the Association, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Abdullah Bou Habib, in the presence of the former president of the Association, former MP Neamatallah Abi Nasr and members of the Executive Council.
At the outset, Karam welcomed Minister Bou Habib, and referred in his speech to the challenges of the current stage, politically and economically. In his speech, he focused on a number of topics, foremost of which are: the file of Syrian refugees, the presidential election, warning once morest not conducting the election on its constitutional date, because failure to conduct it will open Lebanon to Various possibilities are very dangerous, considering that the country is not run by a caretaker government.
On behalf of the Maronite League, Karam called on all parties and politicians in the sect to renounce their differences, put aside their personal ambitions, give a truce to their tongues, and meet under the umbrella of Bkerke and its sponsorship, to reach a common vision to save the republic and stop the massive deterioration that befell the Maronites as a result of their differences. He stressed the need for action. before it’s too late.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants thanked the President of the Association and members of the Executive Council for inviting him to hold a consultation and dialogue meeting.
On the issue of demarcating the maritime borders, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants affirmed Lebanon’s unified position, especially the 23rd line and the Qana field, noting that negotiations are continuing, waiting for Lebanon to be informed of the Israeli position on the American mediator, Amos Hochstein, whose upcoming visit to Beirut has not yet been set.
With regard to the issue of the displaced Syrians, Minister Bouhabib affirmed the unity of the Lebanese position, and a ministerial committee has been set up to follow up on this file. Bouhabib touched on the recent Brussels 6 meeting, where Lebanon requested the European Union’s assistance in returning the displaced Syrians to their country and set a gradual road map in cooperation with Lebanon that would organize this return. Bouhabib indicated that the Arab countries supported the Lebanese position, unlike some influential European countries that still oppose and demand the integration of the displaced Syrians into the Lebanese society.
