Both “iPhones 16 Pro” will have periscope lenses, claims Kuo

At the beginning of the month, the display market analyst Ross Young stated that the upcoming “iPhones 16” will feature 6.3 and 6.9-inch screens, instead of the current 6.1″ and 6.7″ found on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, respectively.

Soon following, he returned to this subject and said that this change, at least at first, would only cover the most expensive models, leaving the “non-Pro” iPhones out.

Well, another famous industry analyst to corroborate this possibility has now been Ming-Chi Kuoda TF International Securities, em a post on the Medium platform. According to him, these new screen sizes will even make it possible to take periscope lens — rumored to only land on the “iPhone 15 Pro Max” this year — also for the “iPhone 16 Pro”, as these displays will free up more internal space inside the smaller model.

As said, it seems that the periscope lens, which reflects the light that enters the telephoto lens using a kind of mirror tilted towards the camera sensor — which increases the optical zoom — will debut first only on the “iPhone 15 Pro Max”, expected by the end of 2023. This information, it is worth noting, was corroborated by Kuo himself still in january of this year.

Also according to the analyst, Cowell will be the main supplier of periscope lenses for the “iPhones 16 Pro”, since Sharp is expected to leave its post in the production chain of Apple smartphones. He, however, did not say what optical zoom levels we can expect for these smartphones, although it is believed to be somewhere in the 5-6x range.

“Reality Pro”

After betting yesterday on an announcement during WWD23, Kuo returned to give a few more hints today regarding the coming mixed reality headset (AR/VR) da Apple.

According to him, the Cupertino giant would already be working on a second generation of the device, which should consist of two headset models: an entry-level, cheaper one, and a top-of-the-line one, with all possible features.

Still according to the analyst, the mass production of this second generation should start in 2025. It is expected to sell 10x more than the first generation of the headset, which should be launched by trifle of US$3 thousand.
