Boston would have “asked” about this stellar pitcher

Hay many teams trying to acquire the Reds’ Dominican pitcher, Luis Castillo, before the trade deadline scheduled for August 2.

Include the Red Sox in that group. According to Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio, Boston is one of several teams that have “asked” for the ace. Also in that group are the Yankees, Mariners, Mets, Dodgers and others.

The Red Sox rotation has dealt with injuries all year, despite the return of Chris Sale on Tuesday. Nathan Eovaldi and Garrett Whitlock appear to be back, while Rich Hill and Michael Wacha hope to do so following the All-Star break.

However, Castillo would give the Red Sox another confidence ace behind Sale. The 29-year-old from Quisqueyano has posted a 2.92 ERA over 71 innings this season, and has looked solid in his last three startsallowing a total of two runs in 20 episodes, in which he has struck out 25 rivals and has only granted five walks.

In addition, the mound will be under contractual control of the club until the end of 2023.
