The Boston College Eagles defeated the Quinnipiac University Bobcats 5-4 to advance to the Frozen Four.

We were treated to a hotly contested game in Providence in this regional final, which ended in overtime when Jack Malone played hero for the Eagles.

Montreal Canadiens prospect Jacob Fowler signed the victory behind a 26-save performance.

After a scoreless first period, the Bobcats scored two goals in the space of 35 seconds to start the second period. Jacob Quillan and Iivari Rasanen gave Quinnipiac a 2-0 lead.

The Eagles responded quickly. 26 seconds following Rasanen’s goal, Ryan Leonard took advantage of a superb pass from Cutter Gauthier to reduce the gap to one goal. Andre Gasseau then brought the two teams back to square one midway through the period.

Four Quebecers play at Quinnipiac, a university located in Connecticut: Christophe Fillion, Charles-Alexis Legault, Cristophe Tellier and goalkeeper Vincent Duplessis. Legault set up Fillion’s goal to give the Bobcats the lead once more.

Leonard tied the game with his second of the game before the end of the second period, but Quillan put the Bobcats back in control following just 16 seconds in the final period.

The best team in the country, Boston College seemed headed for an earlier exit than expected, but Aram Minnetian forced overtime by tying the score with less than five minutes remaining in the game.

Malone didn’t keep the suspense going long in overtime, scoring the game-winner at 3:06 of the overtime period.

Duplessis finished the match with 27 saves. Legault had two assists in the defeat.

Boston College will face the winner of the duel between Michigan and Michigan State in the Frozer Four, which begins on April 11.
