ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Los Angeles Angels dropped a franchise-worst record on Wednesday, conceding their 14th straight loss following Bobby Dalbec hit a sixth-inning double that drove in the only run in the Red Sox victory. Boston 1-0.
Nathan Eovaldi (4-2) got the win following a five-inning, six-hit, five-strikeout effort, and Boston posted its seventh win, its best streak of the season.
With a decaffeinated performance both on offense and on the mound, the Angels accumulated another loss in interim manager Phil Nevin’s second game in charge of the team, following the dismissal of Joe Maddon the day before. The team surpassed the previous record of the franchise, which had chained 13 setbacks counting the last 12 games of the 1988 season and the first of the following.
Los Angeles was first in the American League West with a record of 24-13 on May 15, but has since gone 3-18 due to a plague of injuries to its starting team and the perpetually limited performance of his bullpen.
Matt Strahm got the final two outs for his third save and Jimmy Herget (1-1) took the loss.
For the Red Sox, Puerto Rican Christian Vázquez 5-1. Dominican Franchy Cordero 2-0.
For the Angels, Dominican Juan Lagares 4-2.
