Bose plans subscription for additional functions of headphones

Which additional functions might be suitable for a subscription model is currently being tested.

Bose is considering offering additional features of headphones in a subscription. How high such a subscription might be and which functions might be suitable for it is currently not certain. Bose is currently still in the test phase, Lila Snyder, CEO of Bose, explained to TheVerge.

It is generally questionable whether there will be functions at all for which customers want to pay extra money. “Sometimes the things you think will add affordable value for customers don’t turn out to be the things buyers need,” she says.

Basic functions remain free

First, the company is in the process of identifying functions and features that make sense for some consumers, but not all need them. Bose is also considering whether additional updates should be made available in the form of a subscription model.

In any case, the Bose boss is convinced that a subscription should be of use to customers. Basic functions should still be available without a subscription.

Bose is not alone

Other companies, especially in the automotive industry, are also trying different subscription models. Among other things required BMW monthly contributions for seat heating, for example. The futurezone has reported. Mercedes on the other hand, wants customers of its new EQ models to pay an annual subscription fee of 1.200 Dollar, to be able to savor the full performance potential of your vehicle.

How the competition from Bose will react to a possible subscription is unclear. If they don’t follow suit, consumers might switch to other manufacturers who don’t charge a monthly fee.
