The winter transfer window will officially open in a few days. Many club officials are already in talks with clubs to sign or sell players. The bosses of Borussia Dortmund have announced a comparatively calmer transfer window for their club. Nevertheless, a few players might leave BVB in January.
This fate might meet Donyell Malen. The Dutchman from Borussia Dortmund has been linked with Sevilla FC in recent weeks. Now the first domino has fallen that might set the offensive player in motion.
Borussia Dortmund: Will Malen move to Spain?
A few weeks ago, sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio announced that Kasper Dolberg would leave FC Sevilla in January and most likely join TSG Hoffenheim. According to various media reports, this transfer should now be as good as fixed. As a result, the Andalusians need a replacement for the attacking player.
At the time, the Italian transfer expert claimed that Donyell Malen was being traded as a replacement for the Dane at Sevilla FC. Since the first domino in the transfer saga around Dolberg and Malen seems to have fallen, the next one might soon follow. If the information Di Marzio shared back then is true, Malen’s move to Spain would be next.
Borussia Dortmund: Does Malen have a future at BVB?
In the coming weeks and months it will be decided whether Donyell Malen has a future in Dortmund. The Dutchman only came to BVB from PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2021 and was supposed to succeed Jadon Sancho there. However, the offensive player has not yet been able to meet the high expectations and so Malen is likely to play for his future in Dortmund.

A winter move to another club seems unlikely. It is questionable whether a club will put the transfer fee on the table in January, which BVB transferred to the Netherlands with 30 million euros almost a year and a half ago. At best, a rental model would be conceivable so that the 23-year-old can get back on track. However, this would not bring in a budget for the Bundesliga club that they would need when looking for a replacement. It therefore seems most realistic that Malen will end the season at BVB. Then those responsible at Borussia will be able to better answer the question of whether Malen has a future in black and yellow.
