Josep Borel, stated that the recognition of the Palestinian state by some countries is not a gift to Hamas nor a recognition of terrorism.

The EU High Representative. Joseph Borel stated that “n EU it does not have the option to recognize or not to recognize the Palestinian state. This is a national responsibility. It belongs to the member states and is a sovereign decision. Some already did. Spain, Ireland.”

Borrell: The recognition of a Palestinian state is not a gift to Hamas

“I know others are thinking that too. I just want to say that recognizing the Palestinian state is not a gift to Hamas, does not mean support for terrorism. This is completely absurd”, he noted, according to APE-MPE.

At the same time, Josep Borel said that the recognition of the Palestinian state by these states cannot be considered an “anti-Semitic approach”, it cannot be considered a “gift to Hamas”.

Ireland, Spain and Norway ready to recognize Palestinian state

Ireland, Spain and Norway announced plans to formally recognize a Palestinian state next week, in a move likely to bolster the Palestinian cause, CNN reported, but also hurt relations between Europe and Israel.

The three European states say the landmark decision is the best way to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East, but it drew swift condemnation from Israel as its foreign minister ordered the immediate withdrawal of its ambassadors from those countries.

According to iefimerida, most of the world already recognizes Palestinian statehood. More than 140 of the 193 member states of the United Nations have formalized their recognition. But only some states of the 27-member European Union are among them.

Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said on Wednesday: “Today, Ireland, Norway and Spain announce that we recognize the state of Palestine. Each of us will now take whatever national measures are necessary to put this decision into effect.”
