Borrell: Escalation of conflict in Lebanon is very dangerous and close to being a full-scale war

“The escalation in Lebanon is very serious and worrying,” Borrell told a news conference in New York. “I can say that we are almost in a state of full-scale war. We are seeing more military strikes, more casualties, more collateral damage and more victims.”

In the same context, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his concern about the large number of civilian casualties resulting from the Israeli raids on Lebanon, according to his representative, Stephane Dujarric.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) also stressed that any further escalation of the dangerous situation in southern Lebanon could have far-reaching and devastating consequences, and Resolution 1701 has become more important than ever.

The intensity of the Israeli bombing of Lebanon increased today, Monday, as Israeli aircraft carried out more than 200 raids on southern towns. The bombing also extended to the Bekaa region in addition to the city of Byblos for the first time.

RT’s correspondent reported that messages were being sent to Lebanese citizens’ phones from Israel stating the following: “If you are in a building containing Hezbollah weapons, stay away from the village until further notice.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to carry out more attacks and expand military operations in Lebanon, considering that what Israel is doing is “changing the balance of power.”

Netanyahu warned the Israelis that “we are facing difficult and long days” and asked everyone to “obey the warnings of the Popular Front,” stressing the need to “stand together until victory.”

These statements come as more than 490 people were killed and 1,645 others were injured, including children, women and paramedics, as a result of the violent and unprecedented Israeli raids on towns and villages in southern and eastern Lebanon, according to a new toll announced by the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
