The first climbing routes of the Born viaduct were opened this weekend. A great moment for Kirsten, Tina and Johannes, at the origin of “Born 2 Climb” this slightly crazy project made possible thanks to various financial supports including, in particular, a crowdfunding which is still ongoing. This is the one and only climbing wall built on a viaduct in Belgium. A first which is also appealing in the world of climbing since it is experienced climbers from all over the country who have traced the routes.

“In fact, we are talking regarding an outdoor climbing gym in a beautiful setting. That’s what makes the place interesting,” reports Joe Dewez, interviewed by the GrenzEcho. The passionate climber from Namur is also the “rock manager” of the Belgian Mountaineering Federation. He was in Born at the weekend to check the strength of the safety anchors. In the wilderness, plugs are generally not used. But due to the smooth concrete nature of the 18-meter-high viaduct, colorful landmarks are a must.
