Boric values ”imperfect” constitutional agreement and UDI asks the ruling party to “listen to its President” | National

Different political sectors valued the words of President Gabriel Boric, who this Monday supported the “imperfect” constitutional agreement sealed a week ago. Added to that, the President once once more admitted that his sector lost in the previous process. Given the notices of wanting to modify the document in the legislative process, the president of the UDI asked those sectors of the ruling party to “listen to his President.”

This Monday, President Gabriel Boric referred once more to the constitutional agreement agreed by the parties to try for the second, and probably last, time to walk towards a new Magna Carta, born in democracy.

was in conversation with Radio Sonar that the President said he valued the agreement that has been reached and stressed that “the body that has sovereignty is 100% elected”, recalling that the experts, in charge of drafting a preliminary draft, will then fulfill an advisory and accompaniment role.

Along with the above, Boric remarked that this new attempt corresponds to “the continuity of a process” and that “those of us who wanted an alternative that deepened democracy in a much more radical way, lost. You can’t stop considering that. we lost by 62%”he added.

“All these borders, limits or tutelage as they say, well, it is part of what might be achieved and I I prefer an imperfect agreement than no agreement, because I believe that Chile needs a new Constitution and a new social pact. Perhaps it will not have all the epic that we would have liked, but we had that opportunity and we lost that opportunity, ”she settled.

In the ruling party, Comunes and the Communist Party have come out to criticize the signed agreement, now wanting to modify it in aspects in which, in their opinion, there is not so much clarity.

The main criticisms of this sector point to the tutelage by the hand of the experts and the democratic participation with regard to the powers of that same committee.

The constitutional agreement in the hands of Congress

From Revolución Democrática (RD) the deputy Catalina Pérez ratified that she agrees with Boric and that from that store they will respect the agreement, although indeed there are points that they would seek to modify.

“I think that the various forces of the ruling party recognize the importance, the relevance of having reached an agreement within the margins of the forces. An imperfect agreement, by the way, the President has said, but it requires within its framework a process of strengthening and deepening citizen participation, having a concern for the legitimacy of the process and the product”, commented the legislator.

From the UDI its president and senator, Javier Macayaclassified Boric’s words as favorable but called on the ruling party and the members of that sector that have raised doubts to pay attention to the President.

In fact, verbatim, requested “that they listen to the statements of their President”.

“The words seem appropriate to me in terms of assuming that there is a different reality and that the people who intended to do something different, not because we say so, but because 62% of Chileans told them so,” he snapped.

As the days go by, doubts are beginning to dissipate as to how the reform will be processed in Congress, necessary to enable the second version of the constituent process.

Although the majority of the ruling party recognizes that there will be competition on some points, the text will not be ignored. An example of this is the Socialist Party, which in the Chamber has already agreed to support the agreement as it is.
