Boric called to approve the fiscal pact and the pension reform – La Discusión 2024-05-08 23:06:42

In his closing speech at Enade 2024, President Gabriel Boric made an emphatic call for the approval of the fiscal pact and the pension reform, highlighting that these measures will provide certainty to the population and promote more equitable economic growth in Chile.

Addressing the businessmen present, Boric stressed the importance of economic growth that benefits all Chilean families. “Our country can and must grow more; and the fruits of that growth can and must be better distributed so that they effectively reach the homes of Chilean families,” he stated.

The president highlighted the need to move towards a comprehensive fiscal pact and pension reform, emphasizing that these measures are fundamental for stability and social cohesion. “It’s not nonsense, it’s conviction. It is not ideologism as we are accused of, it is realism,” he emphasized.

Boric recalled the success achieved with the mining royalty as an example of how agreements can generate certainty and encourage investment. “Did investment in mining decrease because of having reached that agreement? No. On the contrary, investment in mining increased because there was long-term certainty that we know is what investors need,” he explained.

The president urged the collaboration of all political sectors to achieve these objectives. “From the Government, we are willing to close these issues as soon as possible, giving certainty to families and the business world,” he stated. Furthermore, he invited the opposition to work together to reach these agreements for the benefit of all Chileans.

In conclusion, President Boric called for unity and putting aside particular interests in favor of the well-being of the Chilean people. “May we feel pride once more in the profession of politics because we are capable of reaching an agreement, putting our people at the center, our people above particular interests,” he concluded.
