A female dog was found by police on the outskirts of Geneva on Tuesday following traveling 163 kilometers in a single night from the house from which she escaped in Bern, the Swiss capital, local newspaper La Tribune de Genève reported on Thursday. .

The dog was apparently trying to find her owners, who had left her with a friend for a holiday in Germany. The animal therefore moved away from them by escaping in a westerly direction.

Officers got hold of the visibly tired animal following receiving an early morning call alerting them to a stray dog alone on the road. By scanning her identification chip, the police then discovered that the dog, a Border Terrier named Lucky, belonged to a family living in the canton of Bern, from where she had escaped the previous night.

The distance covered by the animal is equivalent to a trip of regarding two and a half hours in a car, a feat that some veterinarians justify by the endurance that this breed of dogs can show.
