Between December 1 and 31, it was documented that more than 302,000 migrants attempted to cross the southern border of the North American country.

The president of the United States, Joe Biden, affirmed this Tuesday that he has done everything in his power to stop the border crisis, which has been the cause of tensions between the federal government and the state authorities of Texas.

“I have done everything I can do. Just give me the power. I asked for it from the day I took office. Give me the Border Patrol. Give me the people, give me the people, the judges. Give me the people who can stop this and make it work well,” he declared.

The United States recorded a record number of illegal crossings last month. In particular, between December 1 and 31, it was documented that more than 302,000 migrants attempted to cross the southern border of the North American country.

Meanwhile, tensions between the Republican-led state of Texas and the Democratic US federal government flared up this month due to different approaches to immigration policy on the border with Mexico.

The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, defended last Wednesday in a statement his state’s right to defend its borders from the “invasion” of illegal immigration, through the Texas National Guard and personnel from the state Department of Public Safety.

Texas’ position has been supported by 26 US attorneys general and the governors of at least 25 states, Fox News reported.

Abbott’s statement was published after the US Supreme Court ruled in favor of the federal government so that it can remove the barbed wire that Texas authorities placed along the bank of the Rio Grande, near the border city of Eagle Pass, to stop immigration.

Despite this, Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick promised this week that the state government will place barbed wire along the entire Texas border with Mexico.
