The potential of wind power in the face of the energy challenges facing Switzerland is whetting Axpo’s appetites. Our country’s largest producer of renewable energy announces the creation of a new team dedicated to the development, construction and operation of wind power facilities.
Wind power has great potential, especially in the supply of electricity in winter. But Switzerland currently has 42 wind turbines producing around 150 gigawatt hours (GWh), equivalent to only 0.3% of total electricity. However, according to a study by the Confederation, the country might potentially produce up to almost 30 terawatt hours (TWh) of wind energy.

Axpo therefore aims to make the most of the sector by intensifying its activities in the field of wind power, the group announced in a press release.
To meet this challenge, the group seems to be giving itself the means to achieve its ambitions. He appointed Cédric Aubert as head of Axpo Wind Switzerland. Known for his commitment to renewable energies, the man has significantly advanced the wind project of Mollendruz, in the Vaudois Jura, underlines Axpo.

Quoted in the press release, Cédric Aubert sets the tone: “Our new team will engage with conviction in the development of wind projects that will not only contribute to reducing CO2 emissions, but will also provide essential winter electricity”, declares he.
The availability of energy is crucial to achieve the objectives set by the policies to intensify renewable energies in Switzerland. The country is aiming for zero CO2 emissions by 2050 and the authorities intend to invest billions to replace fossil fuel heating and increase indigenous electricity production. Wind power must play a key role, according to Axpo boss Christoph Brand.
