From mid-November, middle school students in the archipelago will be able to be vaccinated once morest human papillomavirus (HPV). But first, an awareness campaign will be put in place at the beginning of next week. Through this, health professionals hope to reach 30% vaccinations.
Still little known to the general public, the human papillomavirus causes more than 6,000 cancers, i.e. 2,900 of the cervix, but also cancers of the ENT sphere, vagina and anus, causing a thousand deaths per year. Very contagious, it is transmitted by skin contact mainly during sexual intercourse.
To facilitate access to vaccination, a campaign will be launched next Monday. It mainly concerns adolescents aged 11 to 14, in whom the vaccine is more effective. A request for parental authorization will be requested from the students concerned. Vaccination can be done in mid-November. Once you have reached secondary school age, it is possible to be vaccinated up to the age of 26.
Remember that 5% of cancers worldwide are linked to the papillomavirus.
Countries have been vaccinating since the 1990s, notably in England and Australia. Today they no longer have cervical cancer. This cancer has therefore been eradicated in these countries.
