5.1 percent more apprentices than in June 2019 – social partner project FAME puts the performance of skilled workers in front of the curtain
St. Pölten (OTS) – There is still good news in the number of new apprentices in Lower Austria, because this has increased further in June comparison. As of the end of June, 5,464 (June 2022: 5,350) young people had started an apprenticeship in Lower Austrian training companies, which is an increase of 114 apprenticeship trainees. “It is particularly pleasing that it is the successful continuation of a multi-year trend. Because compared to June 2019, 265 more young people started an apprenticeship last month, which is an increase of 5.1 percent,” says Wolfgang Ecker, President of the Lower Austrian Economic Chamber.

The dual training is an essential measure so that our companies can find and retain sufficient employees in the long term,” explains Ecker.
FAME – Social partners recognize the achievements of young professionals
“We are well on the way to giving teaching the status it deserves in society. But as is so often the case in life, there is still room for improvement here and further measures are therefore needed,” emphasizes the WKNÖ President and adds: “An example of this is the latest initiative by the Lower Austrian social partners, FAME. In doing so, we bring the achievements of our young professionals to the front of the curtain.” Together with the Lower Austrian Chamber of Labor, the Lower Austrian Chamber of Commerce invited the Lower Austrian world and European champions to immortalize their handprints on the St. Pölten town hall square. Young skilled workers from Lower Austria have won a total of 46 medals since the start of WorldSkills in 1961 and EuroSkills 2008. “The young, successful skilled workers and participants in the professional championships are role models and ambassadors for the excellent quality of the skilled workers and apprenticeship training in Lower Austria. With the immortalized handprints, we are showing that the best of the best come from Lower Austria,” says Wolfgang Ecker happily.
In addition, there are numerous other activities of the social partners to further strengthen the image of teaching:

The app offers help in exploring children’s talents, gives tips for choosing a career and ultimately helps them get started in their chosen profession.Let’s Walz: With “Let’s Walz” apprentices from all sectors of the Lower Austrian economy have the opportunity to spend four weeks abroad to work in a company that corresponds to their apprenticeship. Master’s course for career orientation: Lower Austria University of Applied Sciences in Baden established a milestone in the training of teachers. Here teachers are taught the most important BO topics and the current training trends. There are also accompanying studies that are constantly updated. Parents should also be involved as much as possible.
