RIYADH: The Saudi Ministry of Municipal, Rural and Housing Affairs has revised regulations and fines related to the activities of petrol banks and businesses. Failure to provide services as determined by category of petrol pumps and establishments will result in action. Since last Monday
Revised penalties come into effect.
A new law has been introduced to require petrol stations to have a coffee shop or restaurant. Failure to do so will result in a fine of 5,000 Riyals. A must-have minimarket at the pumps should be open round-the-clock. Otherwise, a fine of 5,000 riyals will be charged.

If the toilets in petrol pumps are not kept clean, the establishment owner will have to pay a fine of 2,500 Riyals. The penalty is the same even if there is a leak in the pipes of the toilets. All infrastructure should be available at the pumps. The fine number has been increased to 25,000 Riyals for serious violations. The Ministry clarified that the measures are to ensure the service quality and cleanliness of the petrol stations.
There should be a facility for prayer in the vicinity of the petrol pump. If there is no Niskarapalli as per the prescribed criteria, the pump owners are obliged to provide facilities for it. Otherwise, a fine of 5,000 riyals will be charged. Coffee shops should be operated at gas stations as per Baladia’s guidelines.

A fine of 1,000 to 5,000 riyals will be imposed if there are no tire shops at petrol stations. Failure to operate engine oil change facilities is also an offence. There is a provision to levy a fine of up to 2,500 Riyals if containers or barrels are not installed at petrol stations for waste collection or if the environment becomes untidy.
The Ministry of Municipal, Rural and Housing Affairs had started implementing revised fines for violations related to roads and public construction works from the 15th of last month.

Those who work in restaurants will be fined 1,000 riyals if they don’t comb their hair or don’t wear gloves. A fine of 2,000 riyals will be imposed if the cleaning standards in the toilets of commercial establishments are poor. The facility should have a flawless system for sewage disposal. The fine is 5,000 riyals for using generators and refrigeration equipment that defaces the public beauty of the city.
