2023-10-16 12:48:11

The cantons of Vaud, Geneva and Valais launched the recall campaign against Covid-19 on Monday morning. In Lausanne, meetings at Unisanté are practically full until the end of the month.

“Today, we came to get vaccinated, to protect ourselves because it is important. We are both of a certain age. We think it is necessary”, explain Silvia and Marguerite in the 12:45 p.m. of the RTS . They were among the first to arrive at the Lausanne vaccination center on Monday.

They were injected with their fourth dose of vaccine against Covid-19.

The booster vaccine is primarily intended for vulnerable people, i.e. those over 65, those with chronic illnesses and pregnant women.

“According to the experience we have thanks to the last waves of the pandemic, these are the people who must receive a dose of vaccine because they are the ones who are most likely to develop serious forms and require a hospitalization”, indicates Karim Boubaker, Vaud cantonal doctor.

The rest of the population who wishes to have this new vaccine administered will have to pay around 60 francs.

Avoid serious forms

This new version of the vaccine has an advantage over the previous ones.

“This new vaccine is adapted to the new XBB 1.5 variant which is circulating in Switzerland, which represents 95% of infections in Switzerland,” specifies Serge De Vallière, doctor specializing in infectious diseases at Unisanté.

The Jura will begin its vaccination campaign on Tuesday. The other cantons will follow in the coming weeks.
