Boost Your Longevity: Harness the Power of Just 10 Minutes a Day of Physical Activity

Physical activity – even practiced only a few minutes a day – is associated with “lower mortality”, shows a meta-analysis (synthesis and analysis of different scientific studies on the same research question) whose results have been published, last March, in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. The health benefits of physical activity are well known and scientifically documented. One question remained: at what level is the threshold for improving health? The research team identified nearly two hundred studies (not all arriving at the same conclusions), whose data were compiled. They represented a total sample of 30 million people. The data was weighted according to the “strength of the studies”. The result is clear: in a totally inactive person, the practice of barely more than one hour per week of physical activity (whether moderate or intense) makes it possible to reduce by almost a quarter (23%) the risk of premature death. Asked by AFP, Soren Brage, epidemiologist at the University of Cambridge (Great Britain) summed up: “You just have to find ten big minutes a day. And you don’t have to go to the gym; it can be part of everyday life.” It should be noted that physical activity is most effective in preventing cardiovascular disease.
