BOOOOOM: El Dibu Martínez responded to the phrase ‘football in South America is not as advanced as in Europe’ that Kylian Mbappé released

A few days ago, just following his continuity at PSG was made official, Kylian Mbappé was attending different media.

In the interview he gave to TNT Sports Brasilthe journalist Isabela Pagliari asked him regarding his candidates for the next World Cup in Qatar 2022.

And at that moment, when he began to talk regarding Argentina and Brazil, he released a phrase that did not go down very well on this side of the world: “FOOTBALL IN SOUTH AMERICA IS NOT SO ADVANCED IN EUROPE”.

kM7 left this controversial reflection when trying to explain why Europe has ruled in recent World Cups (the last champion of South America was Brazil in 2002). In his opinion, in Europe there is greater demand and level in preparation for the World Cup.

“Favorites? France. I think Brazil too, Brazil is a good team. There are several European teams as well. Because the advantage we have here is that we always play high level matches, we have the UEFA Nations League, for example. So when we get to the World Cup, we are ready. And Argentina and Brazil don’t have that. In South America football is not as advanced as in Europe. And that’s why, when you look at the last World Cups, it’s always the Europeans who win.

DIBU MARTÍNEZ ANSWERED MBAPPÉ

El Dibu Martinezgoalkeeper of the Argentine national team, touched on the words of Donatello in the talk he had with TyC Sports.

The Aston Villa keeper agrees with Fabinho, who commented that Argentina and Brazil will surely qualify first in the UEFA qualifiers. And he added that the Europeans would have problems competing in the conditions in which they are played in the CONMEBOL qualifying process.

In South America, each visit is a brutal adventure with very uncomfortable conditions, while in Europe it is normal to find perfect settings to play Europe.

“I read what Fabinho said, it seemed correct to me. Bolivia, in La Paz. Ecuador, outside with 30º degrees. Colombia, you can’t breathe. But, well, they always play on perfect courts, with a wet field. They don’t know what it’s like to play and travel in South America.”

The advantage of the selected Europeans and the drought of South America in World Cups: “We, all South Americans, play in Europe and every time you come to the national team you travel 2 days, between the round trip. You try to adapt to different weather, you can’t train much because you’re exhausted, and that affects. When an Englishman goes to train in England, within half an hour he is at the venue, training. And he is rested. And they gain 2 or 3 days of training, that the coaching staff, when we arrive at the venue, they know they need us to rest because we are dead from traveling, and that affects a lot. But let’s hope this World Cup will change.”

Would an important team from Europe be the leader in South America? “It may come out first, but if it goes to Bolivia, Ecuador or Colombia… we’ll see how easy it is for them.”

Undefeated data. Argentina has not won a World Cup since 1986. In 1990 and 2014 they were runners-up in the world. They arrive in Qatar following breaking 28 years of waiting without a trophy.

Did you know…? Kylian Mbappé registers 26 goals and 16 assists in 54 games with the France National Team. And he has already won the World Cup (being the young MVP) and the UEFA Nations League (being the Golden Boot). Almost nothing.
