End of reign for Guillaume Musso. After twelve years at the head of the ranking for the greatest number of books sold each year, the 49-year-old author was dethroned by Mélissa Da Costa, a young 33-year-old novelist known for “All the Blue in the Sky” published in 2019.

With more than 1.1 million books sold this year, the author sees herself, according to “Le Parisien”, taking first place in the ranking of the best sales figures for French-speaking novels in France, driven by her latest works “Femmes du end of the world” and “The star maker”. In 2022, it had already established itself in 3rd place in the ranking.

In four years, the young author is on her seventh published novel. This remains far behind Guillaume Musso and his 21 works. Although he has not released any this year, the novelist has nevertheless sold more than 540,000 copies of his previous works, before publishing his 22nd novel next March. He is expected to take sixth place in the rankings this year.

A 100% feminine podium

In the rest of the ranking, we find a 100% female podium. In second position is Virginie Grimaldi, with almost a million copies sold this year thanks to “Une belle vie”. And on the third step, the author of “Kilomètre zero” (2017), Maud Ankaoua, has sold more than 720,000 copies.

The rest of the ranking is made up of Pierre Lemaitre and his work “Les frescoes glorieuses”, and the crime novel author Franck Tilliez. As a reminder, the final annual scores have not yet been set, the month of December being crucial for book sales. In 2022, it represented 16% of booksellers’ turnover.
