book by Dr. Jean-Louis Poignet

The kidneys are the most discreet organs there are. And that’s a bit of the problem, we only realize their presence and their importance when things start to go wrong.

As we know, the kidneys play a major role in our health and have several very specific functions. Of course, they eliminate toxins and waste from our body by filtering the blood, but they also regulate the amount of water, mineral salts or even potassium in our body.

We know less, they also play a role in controlling blood pressure. It is therefore essential to take care of it.

In France, nearly 3 million people suffer from a deterioration in the filtration capacity of the kidneys, or chronic kidney disease.

And among them, nearly 90,000 are at the stage of end-stage chronic renal failure (ESRD). This very serious condition requires a kidney transplant or the implementation of a replacement treatment by dialysis, in a center or at home.

Nephrologist, Dr. Jean-Louis Poignet specializes in general nephrology and arterial hypertension in pregnant women. He headed the nephrology department at Saint-Joseph Hospital in Marseille until 2018 and previously the nephrology department at the Center Edouard Rist in Paris.

Principal doctor of the reserve armies, Dr. Poignet has taught renal therapies at the Faculty of Medicine of Paris Bichat and Strasbourg.
