Thanks to an agreement with the Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec (FIQ), the Legault government announced on Wednesday a 21.43% increase in the amounts of the bonus for attracting and retaining nurses.

The premium will thus increase from $14,000 to $17,000 and, for more remote areas, will reach $24,829 instead of the current $20,447, amounts that will be indexed each year to meet the increase in the cost of living. .

“Improving the conditions to attract more qualified personnel will improve access to quality health care for the citizens of Nunavik,” said Health Minister Christian Dubé in a press release.

To combat the labor shortage in Nunavik, Québec is also making adjustments to the organization of work time in order to increase the number of outings for professional staff who will have easier access to northern leave.

“Today’s announcement is part of the concrete solutions being deployed to address labor issues in the region. The measures will make it possible to attract new resources, but also to retain those who are already helping us in the field,” added Mr. Dubé.
