The police routinely searched the station area with special forces and explosive detection dogs, as police spokesman Hans Wolfgruber explained. Since nothing suspicious was found, the lockdown was lifted at 6:25 p.m., according to police.
The threat to use explosives against the station facility was received by the police via an email shortly before 4 p.m., a police spokeswoman said in the evening. “The main station has been evacuated.” Train traffic was stopped until the all-clear was given. Wolfgruber did not provide any details about the threat received for tactical reasons.

It is the third incident at a train station in an Austrian capital within three days: the train station in Graz was evacuated on Monday, and the police in Linz were on a large-scale operation on Tuesday – the OÖNachrichten reported.
A major police operation was also underway in Amstetten on Wednesday afternoon: After four suspicious packages were found, the main square was cordoned off and adjacent buildings were evacuated. A large contingent of emergency services was on site.
