A pro-Russian official in the eastern Ukrainian city of Berdyansk was killed in a car explosion on Tuesday, city authorities said.
“Berdyansk commander Artyom Bardin, who was seriously injured in the explosion of his car, died in hospital,” the pro-Moscow city authorities said in a statement on “Telegram”.
On Tuesday morning, Bardin, the head of the administration installed by the Russians in Berdyansk, was taken to hospital, in critical condition following being injured in a bomb explosion in his car. Local authorities accused “Ukrainian terrorists” of being behind the attack, considering it aimed at “intimidating” Ukrainian officials who sided with the Russians.
In the past months, many Russian-appointed officials have been killed or injured in attacks in Moscow-controlled areas of Ukraine. Kyiv has not officially claimed responsibility for the attacks.
In late August Alexei Kovalev, a former lawmaker who had joined the appointed administration from Russia, was shot dead.
