PESHAWAR: A bomb blast near a Shi’ite mosque in northwestern Pakistan has killed at least 45 people. Authorities said more than 65 people were injured. The bomber struck shortly following noon in front of a mosque in Jamia Masjid in the Khisa Quani Bazaar area.

Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Ijaz Ahsan said two assailants tried to enter the mosque and opened fire on guards.

He said one police officer was killed in the shooting and another was being treated for serious injuries. No group has claimed responsibility for the blast.
