The Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, affirmed this Saturday that, due to the support he received in all the streets of all the cities of Brazil in the 45 days of the electoral campaign, he is sure that he will be re-elected in the presidential elections on Sunday with more than 60 % of the votes.

Despite the fact that the latest voting intention surveys show him in second place, with between 36% and 37% of the valid votes, behind the progressive leader Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the favorite and who would obtain between 50% and 51%, the right-wing leader stated that what is seen on the street is very different from what the polls say.
“We were in Joinville this Saturday and it seems that the whole city took to the streets to welcome us. It was incredible what happened,” said the head of state in a live broadcast on social networks on the eve of the most polarized presidential elections in the history of Brazil.
“And not only today but in the 45 days of the campaign, in which I made nearly 20 trips, the acceptance in all places was exceptional, even in the northeast region, which they say is a stronghold of the left, where the reception it was amazing,” he said.
Bolsonaro, confident that he will win the elections
Bolsonaro assured that he does not trust the polls but what he sees on the streets and that what he saw was the majority of the population receiving him in all the cities to spontaneously show him their affection.
“The polls say that Lula has 51% of the votes, but no one came out to receive him anywhere. I was greeted like a pop star in Garanhus (her rival’s hometown),” she said.
“That is why I do not expect anything else but that the elections be decided tomorrow, with more than 60% of the votes in my favor. I have already participated in many elections and I have never seen so many people on the streets,” she stated.
He added that even in the electoral acts this Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil’s largest city, it was clear that those who went to receive him significantly outnumbered those who attended an event led by Lula.
Despite the optimistic statements by the head of state, the latest polls, released this Saturday, show that the socialist leader has half the votes and chances of being elected president without the need for a second round.
The legislation establishes a second round, scheduled for October 30, in the event that no candidate obtains more than half of the votes.
Bolsonaro stated that his confidence in victory depends on “everything works well, especially in Brasilia, with smoothness and transparency, to give the result of the election”.
His statement was a reference to the electoral authorities, which he has harshly criticized for considering that Brazil’s electronic voting system is unreliable and susceptible to fraud.
The far-right leader has said that he will only recognize the results of the elections if they are clean and transparent.
