This Monday, the Government of Bolivia summons the Argentine ambassador in La Paz, Marcelo Massoni, to express his firm rejection of the statements made by the Office of the President of the Republic of Argentina, Javier Milei, who condemned the alleged denunciation of a coup d’état made by the Administration of Luis Arce.
Bolivia summons Argentine ambassador
On Sunday night, the Office of the President of the Argentine Republic issued a statement condemning the false accusation of a coup d’état made by the Government of Bolivia.
According to Milei’s government, democracy in Bolivia faces a serious threat, not because of an attempted military coup, but because of the tendency of socialist governments to turn into dictatorships. Milei compared the situation in Bolivia to that of countries such as Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and North Korea.
The Arce government firmly rejected the unfriendly and reckless statements of the Office of the President of the Argentine Republic regarding the military insurrection last Wednesday, which the Bolivian president described as an attempted coup d’état.
Last Wednesday, a group of soldiers led by the ousted military chief Juan José Zuñiga, heavily armed and with tanks, carried out an armed uprising once morest the government of Luis Arce. Hours later, the rebel commander retreated and was arrested.
Several people have questioned the veracity of Arce’s claims regarding an alleged “coup attempt,” including former president and leader of the ruling Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) party, Evo Morales (2006-2019), who claimed that the government simulated a “self-coup” and called Luis Arce a “liar.”
