Bolek Polívka: Children make him happy

The three oldest children of actor Bolek Polívka (74) are already following in their father’s footsteps. Vladimír, whom he has with Chantal Poullain (67), and Anna, whose mother is Evelyna Steimarová, are successful actors. Kamila Polívková is dedicated to costume design and theater direction.

As Bolek confided to us at the launch of his ex-wife Chantal’s book, the family tradition also affected his other three children with his last wife Marcela. “I am excited regarding my children, sometimes it brings tears to my eyes,” he admitted.

“Franto graduated now. He plays the trumpet and is a rapper, they have such a party and he also writes the lyrics. He also has a sense of humor, which Jenda has too. He played basketball, with Tigers Brno they were national champions. I’m happy for him. Now he got to JAMU for physical and author’s theater. Jamaica and Damascus are teeming with us. Marianka will graduate next year,” he boasted.

He is happy that his children follow him in his profession. “They see us all playing somewhere or writing and creating, so it feels like a natural way of life. I try to make them theater people and not specialize in one field. If they feel like it, let them try it. They’ll get their hands on it, not me,” he didn’t dissuade them from an uncertain profession.

We also talked regarding acting. The pain doesn’t switch as much anymore. He is currently filming with Jan Hřebejk. He also got a haircut for the role. At the same time, he also plays theater and rehearses. “But I don’t do everything at once anymore. On the days I shoot, I don’t play in the theater and vice versa. And if I have delays in filming, because there is always a wait, I will read a book by Chantal,” he explained.
