To finalize this trade, we learned in the process that the Magic separated from E’Twaun Moore and Michael Carter-Williams. Both players directly bear the brunt of Orlando’s new recruits. On the side of the Celtics, everything suggests that this exchange is only a first domino which prepares the sequel. Boston had indeed the possibility of escaping the luxury tax by keeping Bol Bol and PJ Dozier. Aside from the financial aspect, this deal between the two teams mostly freed up two spots on the Boston roster. They now have room to sign two players in trade except 2.1M and 1.9M. This leaves them much more flexibility in a possible trade (Schröder?) to reinforce the Jay Brothers. They will be able to explore all the possibilities with fewer financial limits and with less urgency. Different time frames are indeed possible for the Celtics. If they are not satisfied with what they can get at the trade deadline, they will have the opportunity to catch up a little later on the buyout market thanks to their two trade exceptions. This transfer therefore promises movement to come in Massachusetts and the second domino has already fallen since Derrick White was exchanged for Josh Richardson in stride.
