The story begins well over 50 years ago, in 1935 precisely, when Lina, a native of Saint-Jean-de-Gonville and her husband, Marcel Chevassus-Agnès de Lajoux left the Pays de Gex to set up as cafe owners. -grocers in Lajoux. They ran “Le Pavillon” for 20 years and had three children, Léon, Monique and Noëlle.

In 1958, Marcel and Lina decided to buy the land where Bois Joly is located in Crozet, the view and the proximity of the cable car inaugurated the same year convinced them that the place was suitable for setting up a small hotel. -restaurant. The land is served by the path created for the gondola but is not connected to water or electricity. Initially, it will be a 60 m² wooden chalet named the Pavilion in memory of their first restaurant from which the IV license comes. Lina runs the café-restaurant and Marcel works in Switzerland. Simple and rustic, the place acquired local fame, even though it was still not connected to water!

When he purchased the land, which he remembers very well, Léon was 17 years old. Passionate about cooking, he then traveled, doing seasons in the restaurant business, at the Richemond in Geneva, in the first five-star hotel in Beirut. He married Berthe, known as Betty, originally from Courchevel. Marcel donated the land to them in 1972, the year the chalet burned down following an electrical problem. We have to rebuild everything. Léon obtains a loan and at first, they only open the restaurant, Betty is in the dining room and Léon in the kitchen. They use their energy and savings to continue the work and open the hotel room by room.

Inaugurated in 1973

Bois Joly, which owes its name to the countless flowers that grew on the land before it was cleared, was inaugurated in 1973. The couple’s three children were then respectively 3 and a half years old (Patricia), one and a half years old (Olivier) and 4 month (Didier baptized at the hotel), the family lives upstairs and from a very young age the children actively participate in the life of the hotel which becomes a reference for banquets and family meals.
