The Metropolitan Police of Bogotá reported the capture in flagrante of two false officials of the Bogotá Water and Sewer Company (EAAB), illegally offering to reinstall the water service in the Siete de Agosto neighborhood, in the town of Barrios Unidos.
According to the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá, the arrest was made thanks to a tip from real EAAB employees who detected suspicious activities by the fake officials.
These individuals were caught wearing official company clothing and using motorcycles to provide unauthorized services.

“The operation was possible thanks to the intervention of the royal officers of the EAAB, who notified the Immediate Attention Center (CAI) Alcázares. The Bogotá Police proceeded to identify the detainees on the spot.”authorities reported.
The two people arrested were transferred to the Immediate Reaction Unit (URI) of La Granja, where they face charges of impersonation.
If found guilty, they could face prison sentences ranging from 48 to 96 months.

The EAAB has issued a warning to citizens to avoid falling for similar scams. The company has issued a series of recommendations to identify fake officials:
