From Silver Medals to Tearful Goodbyes: Boglárka Telegdy-Kapás Takes the Plunge
Ah, the world of competitive swimming! A place where you spend years aiming for gold, dodging the inevitable “Aren’t you in the wrong pool?” comments, and ultimately, glide through the water like a fish with a slightly questionable sense of direction, thanks to the lifeguard who’s just a little too keen on the whistle. And in the latest episode of “Goodbye You’ll Miss Me,” we have none other than Boglárka Telegdy-Kapás, who gracefully jumped into the pool for the last time at the national championships.
Boglárka’s Splashy Send-Off
With the grace of a swan and the emotional weight of a particularly sentimental soap opera, Boglárka bid adieu to her competitive swimming days. She medaled in the 400 medley, snagging a silver, and left us all thinking, “This is either a touching retirement or the prelude to a very dramatic music video.” In her own words, she said, “I really enjoyed these three days; I’m glad I was able to say goodbye in this way.” Ah, yes, the kind of farewell that sends shivers down your spine, much like watching a family dog leave for a new home.
“It’s not just a farewell, it’s a *Taylor Swift* Tour!”
In a delightful twist of metaphorical finesse, Tóth Bálint Telegdy-Kapás cheekily compared Boglárka’s farewell competition to the national championship as akin to sensible Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour.” Because honestly, who wouldn’t want to be compared to a pop icon while potentially creating their own heartfelt ballad about racing up and down pool lanes?
Boglárka articulated the sheer joy of competing one last time, stating, “I enjoyed these three days… we competed well with Vivi.” Yes, nothing says “let’s celebrate our sport” like a bit of friendly competition, even if it involves racing against someone who still has a solid chance of stealing your thunder when you’re not looking.
Tears, Triumphs, and Turbulent Waters
Back on the podium, emotional waves crashed over Boglárka after clinching that silver medal. Like a well-scripted finale, there were tears – the good kind, mind you, not the kind that makes you wonder where on earth you misplaced your goggles.
“This 400 medley is always like that; it never wants to end,” she said, clearly channeling either the agony or ecstasy of endurance swimming that speaks volumes. To those brave enough to take on the challenge, the last 100 meters must feel like an eternity of self-doubt and sheer willpower wrapped in chlorinated water.
“Am I Ready for This?!”
Caught off-guard by the emotional toll of this farewell, Boglárka confessed, “I thought I was prepared, but as it turned out, not so much.” It’s remarkable how a finely-tuned physique and countless training hours can still leave you in an emotional heap when you realize the end is nigh.
With a career that boasts Olympic medals, world championships, and more accolades than you can shake a fishy stick at, Boglárka is set on preparing for the World Championship ahead, not just physically but emotionally too. And dare I say, there’s something hilariously relatable about standing on the edge of a pool, amid all that adrenaline, and thinking: “Why am I crying? I’m just here to swim!”
Conclusion: What’s Next for Boglárka?
As the curtains have drawn on Boglárka Telegdy-Kapás’ swimming career, her story reminds us that every great athlete’s journey is punctuated with moments of joy, tears, and a splash of nostalgia. We’ll be here, cheering in the stands, with our popcorn at the ready!

Boglárka Kapás: I really enjoyed these three days, I’m glad I was able to say goodbye in this way
Tóth Bálint Telegdy-Kapás compared the swimmer’s farewell competitions to the “Eras Tour” tour of her favorite singer, Taylor Swift, whose next stop was the national championship, including the 400 medley, in which she finished second.
“Obviously, it’s a great feeling to experience this, not only did I feel it for the first time, but it’s so pleasant that I can say goodbye to the short track national championship with such a memory. I am very satisfied with this 400 medley, we competed well with Vivi (Jackl with Vivien – the ed.)and the fact that we were able to compete again, because he is a fantastic talent, very young, and I wish him the best of luck this time as well. I enjoyed these three days, I’m glad I was able to say goodbye like this” – evaluated Boglárka Telegdy-Kapás.

There were tears on the podium after winning the silver medal in the 400 medley.
“This 400 medley is always like that, it never wants to end, but I was able to enjoy it. Obviously, I had already struggled with my tears before and not only struggled, I also cried, so it was difficult. The last 100 was long because I didn’t have any strength left, but I’m glad it happened that way, because yesterday I felt that I still had some left in both races, so today I came here to the 400 medley without making the same mistake as yesterday.” he said of his race on Friday.
“I thought I was prepared, but as it turned out, not so much” – he said when asked how difficult it is to stand up to the last race without falling apart in the head. “I didn’t expect it to wear on me so much, but it obviously did. I’m trying to prepare for the World Championship, in this too, in addition to physically preparing for the events, but yes, this is an extra thing that I have to prepare for now” – the Olympic bronze medalist, world champion and seven-time European champion, short course European champion, two-time youth Olympic champion Hungarian swimmer concluded his evaluation.
