The Boeing Company, bringing innovation to its drones, has created the company’s first drone that takes off on wheels just like an airplane.
It has been named the Lowell Wingman, whose wheels carry all the weight and have the same strength as an aircraft. This landing gear, i.e. the wheels, opens and closes exactly like a passenger plane. Earlier, the structure and other aspects were being worked on for a long time, while the wheels have finally been installed.
In this regard, three designs have been made for the Royal Australian Air Force as part of the Lowell Winigman Advanced Development Program. But these will not be ordinary drones but will fly alongside manned and unmanned aircraft and be part of a larger mission.
Along with Boeing, 16 different institutions have also conducted research in this project, which aims to bring the drone to the global market. The 38 feet long drone is a masterpiece of the latest digital engineering and innovative materials. The built-in sensors can be customized or changed as per the customer’s requirements.
Most importantly, it is a fully unmanned jet drone with a fighter-like flight and a range of up to 3700 km. However, its other features have not been revealed and it is believed to be a bomber due to its wheels. In peacetime, drones can also perform reconnaissance and surveillance tasks.
