BOE lost all iPhone panel orders after modifying the design without approval – Hong Kong unwire.hk

The Korean website The Elec recently quoted sources as saying that Chinese screen panel maker BOE has yet to obtain approval for Apple’s production of OLED panels for the iPhone 14 screen. According to the report, BOE changed the line width of the OLED thin film transistors supplied to the iPhone 13 without Apple’s approval, which was discovered and returned by Apple. It is said that BOE has not supplied OLEDs for iPhone production and use this year.

The news said that BOE changed the OLED panel specifications without authorization in order to increase revenue. In order to resolve the incident and win orders for as many as 30 million OLED panels for the iPhone 12, 13, and 14, BOE has sent its executives and several employees to the United States in person to come to Apple headquarters to propose reasons for changing the design. Due to unauthorised design changes leading to a halt in production and possibly losing all orders, BOE may send a CTO or even a CEO in hopes of resolving the problem.

The entire iPhone 14 series may involve as many as 150 million OLED panels, of which Samsung will cover the 6.1-inch OLED required for the iPhone 14 Pro, while LG is expected to provide LTPO OLEDs for the iPhone 14 Pro Max. If BOE can’t make Apple change its mind, their 30 million OLED orders this year will most likely be handed over to Samsung and LG.
