“With deep regret, the president of SPFE, Alex Santos, and the entire organization of the Navega Open 2024 Championship, held in the city of Navegantes, announce the death of the athlete Antônio Leso Brás de Souza. Our deepest condolences to family and friends for this invaluable loss,” communicated the São Paulo Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation (SPFE), organizer of the event.

The Brazilian managed to get on the podium after finishing third in one of the categories, but collapsed instantly after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Hours before the tragic outcome, the athlete posted his hopes of competing: “Okay, friends, let’s go to the weigh-in. God willing, everything will be fine. We are thin, aren’t we? I think you can see it on my face. I will win many more titles.”
Yone Farias, wife of the bodybuilder He explained that the Brazilian had been taking diuretics to be in better shape on the day of the competition: “I was very dehydrated. Very dry, unfortunately. This is an addictive sport and at the same time competitive. He was very focused.”
