Body of Blessed Acutis long-term in Assisi – Vatican News

Bishop Sorrentino of Assisi said Blessed Acutis and the saint Francis eight centuries ago were the way to meet Jesus.

(Vatican News Network)Blessed Carlo Acutis was called by the Lord when he was only fifteen years old. During his lifetime, he was active and lively, with deep faith and an infinite love for the Lord Jesus. In this Blessed One, we not only see the madness of the present age, but also the yearning for eternal life and a heart that is not attached to earthly things. Such is the charm of Blessed Acutis. Many young people found the answer in him, showed interest in him, and made pilgrimages to his tomb at the “sacred place of stripping” in Assisi.

On the evening of June 1, following Mass, Bishop Domenico Sorrentino of Assisi reopened the tomb of Blessed Acutis. Not long ago, the “Door of St. Francis” was opened, so that the faithful might re-experience the act of St. Francis of Assisi to renounce all worldly possessions in the bishop’s palace following 800 years. “The place of St. Francis and the remains of Blessed Acutis are the way to meet Jesus,” said Bishop Sorrentino. “Their portraits hang together at the entrance of the pilgrimage site and point to Jesus together.”

Bishop Sorrentino hopes that “this awareness will inspire all pilgrims who come to this shrine, urging them to open their hearts to the light of the Gospel and to gain a profound experience of faith”. The body of Blessed Acutis will be available for a long time.

Acutis died early in his teens from explosive leukemia. He was beatified on October 10, 2020, 14 years following he rested in the arms of the Lord. The newly beatified parents also attended the ceremony. Card Agostino Vallini, who was officiating at the Mass, called Acutis not only a “beacon” for many, but also an “example of fortitude”. The New Blessed “is uncompromising, knowing that in order to remain in the love of Jesus, the Gospel must be lived concretely, even once morest the current”.
