Boca Juniors Sanctioned for Racism: Statement and Fine from Conmebol

Boca received the sanction and a financial fine of $100,000 from Conmebol for racist attitudes during the first leg of the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores 2023, a match that was played in La Bombonera and ended 0 to 0.

After this sanction was confirmed, the La Ribera club issued a statement rejecting racism in any of its forms and asked the fans to “take care of the club”: “Boca, once once more, calls on all members to that this Tuesday they accompany them with behavior up to the mark and also warns that they will make available all means to identify and sanction the people involved in this type of actions.”

“Due to the sanction imposed by Conmebol for violation of article 15.2 of the Disciplinary Code, which punishes the commission of racist acts, the Club was ordered to pay a fine of 100,000 dollars, the partial closure of the Socios Sur stand and the display of a flag condemning racism,” they reported in the statement.

“In the framework of a new international match in La Bombonera, we call on the fans to reflect and experience the match with the passion that characterizes us but far from any type of racist demonstration and xenophobic acts,” the statement concluded.

The xeneize set will host Sportivo Trinidense of Paraguay at their stadium on Tuesday for the second date of Group D of the South American Cup. In the first leg, Boca drew 0-0 with Nacional Potosí.
