NBA – The interior of the Bucks will play the role of Earl Lloyd, the first African-American player to have played in the NBA. The theatrical release in the United States is scheduled for April 14.
In this film retracing the journey of Hall of Famer Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton, the first African-American player to sign an NBA contract, Bobby Portis plays the role of Earl Lloyd, the first African-American to have played in the NBA, in 1955. He also became the first black assistant coach at the Detroit Pistons in 1971.
The story goes behind the scenes of this major league breakthrough, when Nat Clifton, then star of the Harlem Globetrotters, was scouted by Knicks founder Ned Irish, who took it into his head to buy out his contract.
Bobby Portis does not play the main role but has a few lines and is present in one of the most important scenes of the film, along with Nat Clifton, played by Everett Osborne, to hold his very first press conference. “It’s really exciting for him.
