TUNISIA (AP) — A baby and a 20-year-old man were found dead Saturday morning after a migrant boat sank off the coast of Tunisia near the southeastern port of Gabès, a report was reported. the coast guards

According to a statement from the National Guard, the boat, which was carrying 20 Tunisian immigrants, sank just 120 meters (390 feet) from the beaches of Gabès. Thirteen people have been rescued and search efforts are continuing to locate the five who are still missing.

The prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the causes and circumstances of the incident, the statement detailed.

The port of Gabès is located about 140 kilometers from Sfax, the starting point for many of the operations to cross the Mediterranean to Europe.

This recent incident adds to the growing number of victims dying in the dangerous waters of the Mediterranean. Just a few days ago, around 41 migrants drowned after leaving Sfax, according to the Italian Red Cross and rescue groups. Four survivors were rescued.

This tragedy highlights the ongoing migration crisis in the region, with many undertaking risky journeys in the hope of reaching European shores in search of a better life.
