Boarding schools are attracting more and more young people. There are around a hundred boarding schools in Wallonia and Brussels. Many are completely full for this year.
Gautier Falque, our journalist, was in the autonomous boarding school of Saint Servais in Namur. He details the reasons for this success.
This Saint Servais boarding school is not linked to a school. He had a resurgence of success two years ago. It welcomes 105 young people: 8 follow courses in primary education, 73 in secondary education and 23 people in higher education. The first explanation for this success is linked to Covid. Pascal Walhain, the director of this boarding school, explains to us why registrations have increased during the health crisis: “During the two years of Covid, young people needed to recreate a social fabric and he found it at boarding school.”
A second explanation is the price of this institution which amounts to 250 euros per month. “In the midst of a purchasing power crisis, it plays a lot, parents when they come to enroll their children inevitably ask for accommodation, food, and activities included, so they know how to be ready in advance”, details the director.
