Boad grants funding to Senegal, 50 billion FCfa invested

At the end of its last Board of Directors, held this Wednesday, September 20, 2023, the West African Development Bank (Boad) granted Senegal an amount of 50 billion of our francs for financing.

This financing concerns the construction and operation of a photovoltaic solar power plant with a power of 30 MWp with a 15 MW/45MWh storage system in Niakhar, by the company Teranga Niakhar Storage. This is to contribute to better coverage of electricity demand and security of the electrical energy supply in the country. It is estimated at 15 billion FCFA.

The West African Development Bank (Boad) also granted partial financing of 35 billion of our francs. This concerns the project to construct infrastructure and systems for the Diamniadio-Aibd section of the Regional Express Train. The aim of this financing is to improve the mobility of people and goods in the Dakar metropolitan area through the advantages offered by the rail mode of transport. It will, among other things, allow the daily travel of at least 180,000 residents while contributing to reducing road congestion by at least 20%.

In addition to Senegal, the Council approved funding for other member countries such as Ivory Coast. The total makes a total amount of 91.313 billion FCfa, bringing to 7,916.3 billion FCfa, the total commitments (all operations combined) of Boad, since the start of its operational activities in 1976, according to LeSoleil.
