BNP: prominent actor Ramón García visited the vault and repository of our Ancient Collection

  • A renowned figure of theatre, film and television, he was honoured as a Meritorious Personality of Culture by the Ministry of Culture.

After receiving the distinction as Meritorious Personality of Culture, the Peruvian actor Manuel Ramón García Monteagudo, known as Ramón García, visited the vault and repository of the Ancient Collection of the National Library of Peru (BNP), an entity attached to the Ministry of Culture (Mincul).

The prominent man of theater, film and television was accompanied by the general manager Agustín Saldaña, the director of the Directorate of Protection of Collections (DPC) César Arriaga and other officials of the first cultural institution in the country.

It was the coordinator of the DPC Custody Working Team, Jorge Huamán, who showed him and gave a brief overview of some of the jewels that the BNP preserves and protects, including “Memories of a Monarchy” by Justo Apu Sahuaraura, the engraving “View of the City of Lima” by Fernando Brambilla, and others.

“I always wondered where important historical data came from, and over time I learned that all that information, the history of our beloved Peru, came from here, from the National Library. We Peruvians should read more,” said Ramón García.

GETTING TO KNOW HIM A LITTLE MORE

Ramón García was born in Callao on November 15, 1949. He studied at the Leoncio Prado Military School and after finishing high school he worked as a waiter and bricklayer.

She applied to the University of Lima for Economics, but changed to Communications, and then took theater classes at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP).

* Many remember him as “Chapana” in “Los Choches” and as “Paquete” in “Camino a Casa”. He rose to international fame in the series “The Young Pope”, as “Cardinal Aguirre”.

  • The Ministry of Culture awarded Ramón García the distinction of Meritorious Personality of Culture, in recognition of his outstanding career and contribution to the art and culture of our country.
  • The recognition ceremony was held at the “Mario Vargas Llosa” Auditorium Theatre at the BNP headquarters (San Borja). It took place on the “International Day of the Actress and the Actor”.
