The director of productive development of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), José Luís Gordon, revealed that the entity intended to resume the relevant role it had already played in supporting the innovationwith special attention to advances in areas such as artificial intelligence e augmented reality. To achieve this objective, the BNDES planned to mobilize its set of financial instruments and deepen the articulation with other research and technological development institutions.

In addition to focusing on the decarbonization agenda and the development of green hydrogen to significantly reduce emissions in industrial sectors, such as the steel industry, the BNDES also sought to boost projects related to renewable energy and to environmental sustainability. Investing in new technologies and initiatives that promote the generation of clean and sustainable energy was a priority for the bank, contributing to economic development with less environmental impact.

The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of the industry being more resilient and flexible, and in this sense, the BNDES was committed to encouraging the adoption of advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, which might optimize industrial processes, increase production efficiency and drive innovation in the sector.

In the pursuit of industrial modernization, digital transformation also played a crucial role. The BNDES recognized the relevance of augmented reality as a tool to optimize the production chain, train the workforce and improve the operational efficiency of companies.

Furthermore, the BNDES strategy for the industry included the strengthening of strategic chains, and the electrochemistry emerged as one of the sectors with development potential and positive impact. Investments in research and development of new materials and electrochemical processes might drive significant advances in areas such as energy storage, sustainable material production and even sectors such as electric mobility.

Faced with global challenges in critical areas, the BNDES also reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability, encouraging projects that promoted the responsible use of natural resources, the environment conservation and the transition to a low-carbon economy.

With this comprehensive approach and focused on innovation and sustainability, the BNDES sought to position itself as an agent that promotes the industrial developmentstimulating the creation of a more prosperous, inclusive and sustainable economic scenario for Brazil.
