A few months following the start of production of the XM, BMW M GmbH is presenting the top model of its first high-performance plug-in with an electrified drive. The XM Label Red combines a performance-enhanced M Hybrid system with design accents that unmistakably express its outstanding performance characteristics. A V8 combustion engine with 585 hp (430 kW) and an electric motor integrated in the 8-speed gearbox with up to 145 kW (197 hp) generate a system output of 748 hp (550 kW) and a torque of 1000 Nm . The new top version not only surpasses the values of the BMW XM, which has been in production since December, by another 95 hp (70 kW) and 200 Nm. The power SUV is also the most powerful M automobile ever produced, and no competitor can currently hold a candle to it in terms of performance.
The power is transmitted to both axles via the M x-Drive all-wheel drive system as required, albeit with a rear-wheel emphasis. The XM Label Red accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, and the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. In conjunction with the optional M Driver’s Package, the limit is raised to 290 km/h. According to BMW, the 25.7 kWh lithium-ion battery should enable a range of 75 to 83 kilometers, with a top speed of 140 km/h purely electrically.
BMW has identified “individualists with a sense for an extroverted lifestyle and a passion for absolute top performance in an automobile that goes beyond traditional conventions” as the target group for the Über-SUV, which will be built at the US plant in Spartanburg from August 2023. And because it can always be a little more individual, an exclusive edition of the top model with a red bordered kidney grille and a body finish in the BMW Individual Frozen Carbon Black metallic variant, limited to 500 units, is also to be created there. Dealers will be taking orders for the XM Red Label from April 28th. The prices should start from 203,000 euros. It should be on the market in September. (awm)
