BMW offers an optional wireless charging pad for smartphones on its new car models. Obviously, it would deactivate the NFC chip of the new iPhone 15s.

We didn’t see that coming. The BMW and iPhone 15 combo would not go well together according to the very serious media MacRumors. Indeed, several Internet users have reported on X and the MacRumors forums a funny mishap that they experienced. After recharging their new iPhone on the wireless charging surface of their BMW, some users noticed that Apple Pay became completely unusable.

“If you have a BMW and bought an iPhone 15, do NOT put your phone on the car surface charger”alert @DeeSoS3xy on X. “The digital card reader will break and you’ll have to get another phone because they don’t have the capacity to repair it yet.”

For now, the error appears to primarily impact users of all four iPhone models and one BMW. According to affected customers, the iPhone would go into data recovery mode and display a white screen before indicating the NFC chip is no longer functional. Even following restoring their iPhone 15 to factory settings the problem did not seem to be resolved.
